Five Favourite Queensland Destinations From 2016
What a massive year it's been! So many beaches and so much fun. Here's my five favourite Queensland experiences from 2016.
5. Fraser Island
Take your 4WD over on the ferry so you can fully explore the island at your own pace. There's a comfortable resort awaiting you or you can choose to go camping. If you're lucky you may even spot some dingos on the beach.
TIP- Do yourself a favour and check out Lake McKenzie and it's crystal clear waters. You can thank me later 😉
4. Keswick Island
Only 15 minutes by plane from Mackay is this little beauty! Step off the plane and at the end of the runway is some of the best fringing reef you'll ever snorkel.
TIP: Pre-book a golf buggy and it'll be waiting for you as you land. Zip around the island and stop in at Basil Bay for a picnic lunch (you can BYO lunch from Mackay).
3. Magnetic Island
Board the ferry from Townsville for a quick trip over to Magnetic Island. Magnetic Island Race Week was huge this year and is a massive draw card. If you've never sailed before- the best way to get started is a sunset sail out of the marina.
TIP- Hire a Mini Moke and explore the many different beaches. Arthur Bay is a fantastic snorkelling spot with lots of colourful coral and fish, just a short swim from shore.
2. Sunshine Coast
The Sunshine Coast delivers every time rain, hail or shine. When it's wet, you've got the wonderful waterfalls and when the suns out- bring on the beach and surf.
TIP: Check out Hastings Street in Noosa and go for a surf, hire a car to explore the waterfalls, kayak in Caloundra and say hello to the Sealife Aquarium in Mooloolaba to swim with sharks and seals! 🐠🐟💦
1. Whitsundays
So many bucket list experiences all in the one place! If you want to see the ultimate tropical paradise there's no better place to start than my favourite beach in the world- Whitehaven beach. Follow it up with a visit to Lover's Cove on Daydream Island and then sleep out under the stars at Reef World on the Great Barrier Reef! No matter where you're from, the Whitsundays needs to be on your itinerary for 2017.
TIP: If you're looking for a romantic afternoon, make your way to Langford Island for an unforgettable experience on a sand bar in the middle of the Whitsundays. Keep an eye out for the turtles that live close by and you might even be able to get a selfie with one!
